How to Choose a Personal Trainer

If you’ve read my post “What Does a Personal Trainer Do?” you may be ready to hire someone, but not sure what to look for in terms of credentials, experience, and specialties.

Certifications

First of all, your personal trainer should have certifications through one of the major personal training programs like the American Council on Exercise (ACE) or National Association of Sports Medicine (NASM). This ensures that your trainer has received a basic education in personal training. My certification is through ACE.

Experience

I would also look for someone who has at least several years of experience in personal training. It’s one thing to pass a test through ACE. It’s another entirely to have the practical knowledge necessary to coach people to health. An experienced trainer will keep you motivated and (hopefully) injury free.

Connection

The last thing I would look for is a personal connection with your trainer. You’re going to spend a lot of time with him or her, sometimes at your most vulnerable. It’s important to have someone that you connect with, especially when it comes to motivational style.

Am I a Good Fit for You?

I have multiple certifications and more than 20 years of experience. If you’re wondering if our training styles connect, there’s no better way to find out than scheduling a free in-person assessment. You can also read my Testimonials here.

Contact me at (760) 658-4708 to get started. We’ll meet in my private studio to discuss your goals and how I can help.
