Strengthening Body, Mind, and Soul with a Last-Minute Hawaii Trip

Life is good!

I work hard to maintain a healthy lifestyle. I eat pretty healthy and usually workout for two to three hours a day. But the truth is that I find the relational, connecting things in life just as nourishing--like taking a vacation with loved ones or spending quality time with my kids.

What about you? Are you on a journey toward a healthier, stronger to you?

If so, my number one tip is just to enjoy the present. This is especially true in a season like this one, when you may be traveling or going to lots of holiday parties with food. It’s important to enjoy where you are in this moment and not feel guilty taking time away from the gym or your job or your diet.

By finding time for the simple things that refresh your soul, like good food and good company, you will find more joy in the less comfortable things, like working out or the daily grind of your job.

What I’m saying is that a healthy lifestyle includes giving yourself permission to indulge and live a little. Pie, LoCo Moco, fried chicken--I enjoy these things myself and I do it fully, knowing that a treat once in awhile won’t derail my healthy lifestyle. And I’m fully present in these experiences, getting every ounce of pleasure out of them instead of wasting the moment feeling guilty or worrying that I’m going off track.

So this holiday season, don’t lose sight of your health goals, but know that a healthy lifestyle is as much about enjoying yourself when the time is right as it is about getting your form perfect for every rep.
