4 Best Health & Wellness Podcasts to Reach Your 2019 Fitness Goals
Stop by my personal training studio in Carlsbad, and I’ll likely be working out to some sort of music. But I also like to listen to health and wellness podcasts that educate me about new topics and inspire me to pursue my fitness goals. The best podcasts are the longer ones that go for almost an hour. I like how these longer health and wellness podcasts dive deep into a topic, whether it’s fitness, nutrition, or recovery.
If you’re struggling to stick to your fitness goals, I highly recommend checking out any one of these health and wellness podcasts. You can listen to them while you’re on a cardio machine for extra motivation, or play them in the car when you have a boring drive ahead of you.
(If you like these podcasts, don’t forget to subscribe to my YouTube channel and click the notification button so you can get an extra dose of tips and inspiration every week. Lately, I’ve been posting some of my favorite Paleo recipes like chicken afritada and salsa chimichurri. I’ll start posting some more workout videos soon too!)
1. Hurdle | https://www.hurdle.us/
I just discovered this podcast and I am having so much fun listening to Emily Abbate interview some of the top athletes today, including marathoner Deena Castor and Tia-Clair Toomey, the Fittest Woman on Earth. She also interviews entrepreneurs like Randy Hetrick, the founder of TRX.
Emily asks her interview subjects to share the story of their personal “hurdle moment”--a time when they came up against a physical, mental, or business challenge and overcame it with fitness. If you’re struggling with an injury, low motivation, or a lack of direction, this is a great podcast to check out.
2. EliteHRV | https://elitehrv.com/podcast
One of my clients is exploring the benefits of heart rate variability (HRV) tracking for health and training, and this podcast has been an invaluable resource on that journey. The founder of EliteHRV, Jason Moore, interviews fitness health and wellness experts on varying topics, including the ketogenic diet, stress reduction, and pain management.
Jason’s interview subjects aren’t always famous, but they always have a deep knowledge of their subject and a contagious curiosity about how our bodies and brains work.
My client just started using the EliteHRV app with a heart rate monitor, and in another month or two she plans on writing a blog post reviewing this technology and explaining how HRV tracking is affecting her approach to fitness and life in general.
3. Finding Mastery | https://findingmastery.net/
Host Michael Gervais is a sports psychologist who has worked with a number of professional and elite athletic teams, including the Seattle Seahawks and the 2016 U.S. Women’s Volleyball team.
In his podcast, Dr. Gervais interviews high-performing athletes and a variety of experts to uncover the answer to his driving question: Is there a common thread connecting how the greatest performers in the world use their minds to pursue the boundaries of human potential?
I particularly enjoyed the interviews with Bessel van der Kolk on trauma and Abby Wambach.
4. Well-Fed Women | https://coconutsandkettlebells.com/well-fed-women-podcast/
If you’re a woman and you’re Paleo, you need to download this podcast! Hosts Noelle and Stefani banter like the best friends they are. Even better, they bring you in on the conversation through their relatable, down-to-earth banter.
Podcast topics include body image, pregnancy, and other hot issues that affect women as they strive to get fit and live their healthiest life.
The dynamic duo also came out with a best-selling cookbook last year, Coconuts & Kettlebells, that encourages women to eat more calories while keeping the content focused on simple, natural foods.
