If you follow me on YouTube, you know I’ve been doing a lot of videos featuring at-home workouts for the last few months. While some states are opening up, California and San Diego in particular continue to be under stay-at-home orders due to the coronavirus.

But just because your favorite gym is closed doesn’t mean you have to quit working out during the pandemic. There are numerous body weight exercises that you can easily do in your living room or backyard. If you want to take it up a notch, buying a few pieces of affordable exercise equipment online will give you an additional range of possibilities.

Here are a few of my favorite pieces of exercise equipment, which you can buy online at places like Amazon and use for at-home workouts during the pandemic. This list, including pricing and availability, is current as of May 10, 2020. Note that I do get a small commission if you use my links to make an Amazon purchase.

Suspension Trainer

You can easily get a full body workout with a TRX suspension trainer, and this one makes it possible to take your TRX with you wherever you go and at a fraction of the price.

For exercise ideas, check out my video on using suspension trainers, or watch the videos on the TRX app. Six months of access is included with your purchase.

I’ve had good experiences with knockoff brands as well, but with the coronavirus many of them are sold out or charging just as much as TRX, so you might as well get the real deal.

Agility Ladder

Agility ladders are often used by athletes like football players to improve speed and strengthen connective tissues, but they also give your brain a great challenge! If you’re bored with your at-home workout routine, this is a great way to switch it up.

Dick’s Sporting Goods has an introduction to basic agility ladder exercises here. As you get better and your brain-body coordination improves, you’ll find yourself getting faster and trying more advanced exercises.

Resistance Band

If I had to pick one piece of exercise equipment to take on a deserted island, it would be my resistance band. Resistance bands are perfect for glute work, but you can even adapt them for upper body workouts in a pinch. I recommend starting with the medium strength band.

I have several videos featuring resistance bands. Find one that matches your current level of fitness and go for it! You will definitely feel the burn. Just keep going through your reps and sets. The hard work will pay off with strong, shapely glutes and a lessened risk of injury when doing other movements.
